Reporting
Daily Herald Media Group
Writing for a circulation that exceeds one million, my time with the Daily Herald has guided me through a miscellany of reporting opportunities. As an intern, I covered captivating stories across a wide variety of sports, from an inspiring story of perseverance after a serious cancer diagnosis to the press release of the 2025 rendition of the NCAA’s “Frozen Four” held at historic Wrigley Field.
Following the completion of my internship, I accepted an offer to return as a paid correspondent. In my initial role, I remotely provided breaking news coverage via contact with local authorities. Upon graduation, I took my pad and pen to the gridiron and the links, detailing game recaps, previews, post-round breakdowns and more while covering IHSA boys football, golf and girls flag football.
The Portal Report/Hoops HQ
The Portal Report is a web-based portal that focuses on transfer portal recruiting for both its scouting service and a media brand that has over 40,000 followers across all platforms. During my time at TPR, I worked with a dynamic team filled with experts in the field. Additionally, I published over 80 articles and have conducted on-camera interviews with Division 1 men’s basketball coaches.
A startup launched by acclaimed CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated writer Seth Davis, Hoops HQ provides readers with an in-depth look into the college hoops landscape. Through a partnership between TPR and Hoops HQ, I have specialized in NCAA transfer portal recruiting coverage and player movement analytics.
Ascend
Maddox and Connor Molony dominate on the diamond. Maddox, the star shortstop for the Oregon Ducks baseball team, batted .309 with 15 home runs this season. Connor, a talented pitcher out of nearby Thurston High School, committed to join his brother with the Ducks in the fall. What some may not know about the brothers, is that their success is driven by an incredibly athletic family, one motivated by results and respect.
Thanks to an incredible professor, Ivan Miller, and a dedicated, connected group of students at the University of Oregon SOJC, Ascend came together. This opportunity expanded my reporting horizons more than I ever could have dreamed. From an interview in a torrential downpour while tossing the ball back and forth with Connor, to a five-hour rain delay at PK Park in advance of Maddox’s game against Minnesota, my ability to adapt has never been better!
So, without further ado, I present “Pitching a Legacy.”
